The laws against torture and aggressive war have been clear for decades. As much as some current and former DOJ people would like you to believe otherwise, it is not possible to issue a simple opinion that makes following these laws optional.

They have certainly all earned it, but this is not just about punishing Bush administration criminals. It's about delivering justice in what is supposed to be a nation of laws, and restoring a sense of morality and integrity that causes others to look upon us with respect, instead of viewing us as a pariah.

  • Some of these people have been in the war crime business for generations, the Bushes, Rumsfeld, Cheney, guilty of killing millions for profit. Yet when a Jeffrey Dahmer pops up in the world it's all the rage and he is quickly dealt with. No wonder Cheney has a permanent smirk on his face.

  • The DOJ is covering their own asses. They're continuing the war crimes, just being more sneaky about it. Holder should be removed from office for dereliction of duty, and Yoo, Bybee, Gonzales, Cheney, Bush, and any others responsible should be investigated and prosecuted for war crimes.

  • Chile 1973 — The CIA overthrows and assassinates Salvador Allende, Latin Americas first democratically elected socialist leader. The problems begin when Allende nationalizes American-owned firms in Chile. ITT offers the CIA $1 million for a coup (reportedly refused). The CIA replaces Allende with General Augusto Pinochet, who will torture and murder thousands of his own countrymen in a crackdown on labor leaders and the political left.

  • @jperryman

I find it interesting that the founding of our nation wasn't a result of non-violent civil disobedience. The original founders pledged their lives, fortunes, and sacred honor. But, the fedgov is worthless, as is the Congress, who met in secret session in 2008 planning for martial law in the United States. And, OF COURSE the bastard supreme court has now declared corporations to be people, because 'we, the people' no longer exist in the context of original liberty. Wake up, America!

  • Totally agree. I contacted my Rep awhile ago about this, and again today !

  • @jperryam That's why I am here also!

  • Agreed. But better to suffer the relative short term pain of removing the tick and be done with it than to be slowly boiled like a frog, don't you think?

  • This issue alone prob doesn't warrant general strike. But we're seeing the systemic corruption and destruction of democracy at the hands of corporatists (modern, anti-democratic capitalists) in my opinion. General strike would have to be the culmination of numerous social movements against the various and abundant injustices growing in our societies, injustices cultivated at the hands of a small elite at the top of the socioeconomic scale. Dug in like ticks; they'll be painful to remove :(

  • Disseminating the truth about the corruption of democracy is important. Yet it's only of consequence when people care enough to disrupt "business as usual". Historically the most effective tool ordinary people have against these injustices is the "general strike". Demos are out-of-sight and out-of-mind; General strike CANNOT be ignored by the powers that be. But first the common people need unity; which a kind of "class consciousness" can best provide; Its out of fashion but can work.

  • What we have is a "pick and choose" law enforcement policy with a "buddy system". You know how the "buddy system" works. If your a "buddy" you can do no wrong. If your not a "buddy" your screwed. It works like that at every level of society. From the bottom, to the top. Kinda sucks don't it?
