Hysterical. "I've been to faraway lands, with far ruder manners."

@wharfmouse It is not a scene taking place years after the ball (as u seem to think when u mention exhile) It does take place sometime before the main story. The fact that the guy who pisses is the same that the one at the ball is only there to make us see that this kind of people takes pleasure in doing to others what was once done to them ( trip somebody up at a ball)
There's therefore only one same character that at the end in this scene: The one who pisses on the old man

IIRC this is the start of the film. The younger gentleman later uses the witticism 'stumble-upon' at the end of the film to taunt de Malavoy, completing the circle, but far from shaming him, it opens his eyes to their decadence and cruelty and reminds him of his real priority ie the mosquitos and his dying peasants, and so the moral story of the movie.

These two guys are obviously the guys at the ball. Yes? Where are they ? Still in France or in England (exiled)? What did the last three lines of the movie say about those exiled? Inquiring minds want to know.

The answer to life the universe and everything accoding to the book "The Hitchhiker's guide to the Galaxy" is 42, but the point is to find the question.
OMG!! Will the US reproach the French people with 'saving' their country for a long time? Did the US have no interest in saving them? I'm pretty sure it had!
That movie is also about the French financial state at that time - which was a major reason for the fall of monarchy.
What do you think was the reason for French debt? It's the Independence War that France fought with the American people. Yep! Because France indeed came to 'save you' from the British!
