  • I have read some of the off handed comments about the crash, but just let me tell you that there isn't a better group of people to be associated with than racers and they are a family and they stick together. RIP SCOTT KALITTA, you will be missed.

  • @jrm111881 Thank you for that info. Well, they are gutsy blokes & very professional too.

  • @dazincalculation Those announcers were legendary former Indycar announcer Paul Page, who is now the lead announcer for the NHRA, and former Top Fuel and Funny Car driver Mike Dunn.

  • @Gbrltr Under normal cirumstances, parachutes and brakes are all a driver needs to stop a drag racing car. And, if you look at the footage carefully, you should notice that this dragstrip uses a sand trap, just like road courses do. The sand pit is in front of the wall. This racing facility is limited however, on what they can do at the end of the track. On the other side of those trees is a highway...

  • @Gbrltr Yes it's ashame that it takes accidents like this to improve the safety, just like Formula One, but judging by the power of that explosion I'd say that hopefully 'mercifully' he would have been knocked out ...but fair dinkum how unlucky in the first place! You do all the necessary precautions and the engine explodes...mid way.

Incidently I'm in Aust so who were/are those commentators? Can't underestimate the courage for them to appear so soon after the tragedy.

  • It looks like he was knocked out by the explosion and probably never regained consciousness before hitting the end of the track at 200 mph. At least he died doing something that he loved; that's more than most of us can say.

  • wow thats all i have to say r.i.p
