Nicholas, this is the purest magic. Your version of this lovely song is the best I have ever heard. I do not exaggerate when I say that, listening, I feel transported to another world, one of harmony and honesty. This is the gift you offer to your listeners - we can only say a heartfelt thank you.

I lower it one line (two notes) for myself too. I feel less guilty about it now I know Spanos does it too.

I wish he would sing this in the original key of E major..lowering the key simply darkens the piece and it simply doesn't work as well. When I used to sing this in recital, there were times I knew I didn't have the high F # and would substitute something else instead of having my accompanist transpose. I suppose that I 'd rather have him sing this in the lowered key than not having him sing it at all. I'm generally not a fan of the countertenor voice, but his interpretation is excellent.

wonderful voice... though I like the piano in Jaroussky's version better...

@Geirby87 I agree with you that the voice is very beautiful! It didn't occur to me before that Spanos looks like George Clooney (or whatever the spelling is) but I'll have a closer look again then:-) In any case you are so right that he is brilliant!

Приятный голос и внешность Джорджа Клуни. Он великолепен!))))

@fourmi1060 I've listened to it again today too. I fully agree with you. It's an unsurpassable voice! Actually I discovered great Hahn's songs only because of Spanos! I've heard other interpretations since then, but Nicholas's are really the best I've ever heard! Pure magic! No other words to describe it! Thank you:-)

@sjuli17 Ah, it isn't "an elephant in the china shop" any more?:-) I thought we are discussing singing:-)

I meant: the piano is better here :)

I also think that all Spanos's performances are gems! I don't like to compare Spanos with Spanos. I couldn't say which version is better. Both are just equal!
Right choosen repertoir is the way to success. Come on Nicholas!
