Morale decay, lack of respect, failure to enforce values and discipline to the younger generations, and lack of unity among the entire population.
The US was united through all of their problems, hence why we managed to fight two World Wars. The stupid things that have happened between the 1950s and now are caused by division and the other things I've mentioned earlier.

@werwr4 What happened to Presidents like these? Nothing, they are the same today as at any time. The difference is the media, and the 24 hour outlets, the blogs, everyone is a reporter with the constant need for news, gossip, scandal. If FDR were to have ruled in this time, the media would be relentless on his "inability" to lead due to his polio. The new deal would have been dead before it started with the constant DAILY questions of "are we better today than yesterday ect ect..
