I'm from Portugal and i think every owner, of any breed of dogs, should be obliged to do a course on how to train and understand the dog. The dog psicology is crucial to havoid any accident. A litle dog can hurt or even kill a baby if the owner do not understand how to be a leader. I've owned many dogs like cocker spaniel, argentine dogo, american staff, true american pitbull, rottweiler and miniature pinscher. The most agressive to humans was the cocker spaniel.

@454chevynova ever met one? Did you know it was America's dog in WWI &WWII? So your hating on an American dog. You hating America itself. Typical Chevy fan, and typical American, ignorant.

@FCScorpio79 I agree with you. I have been around and owned a number of them from top breeders. There are reasons for their bad rap just look at the stats. I have seen dozens of attacks from so called "Good Loyal Family Dogs" turn without notice or reason. They have all been from noble lines etc. The fact is... it's in their nature. They should never be around children or the elderly alone. Too many owners are in denial until its too late. I like the breed they are smart & powerful!

@FCScorpio79 im sorry you feel that way as my wife will tell you there is no better breed around children. yes pitts can be mean however those are usually inbread by back yard breeders looking to make a quick buck. But a well bred pitt is a lover of children remember the little rascals? pete was a pitt. and we have done rescues over the years and the only breed that didnt snap at our children was the pitt. we even rescued a golden who bit my son for no reason at all
I take on board everything you say, however it doesn't change the fact that when they're not trained properly, they're much more dangerous than most other dogs and seem to be involved in a disproportionate number of serious maulings.
I'm not saying other dogs aren't dangerous, but I wouldn't let a child go anywhere near one of these dogs.

@FCScorpio79 That's not really true if one looks at the breeding, CDC has even stated there is no way to tell what breeds attack more. 1. not all are reported, 2. Misidentification (I could give you a link full of similar stories, also working at a animal shelter a lot of non Pit bull dogs are labeled as such.) At one point Golden Retrievers were hitting the tops of reported dog attacks, Labs the highest in some counties. That doesn't make them "bad" breeds.

@FCScorpio79 Also take into consideration the sheer number of these dogs, over 1 million are estimated to be euthanized in shelters every year, compare that to the number of attacks.

@FCScorpio79 Google "real pit bull perspective" and it's the first link. A decent place to start. :)
