  • I am running OS X Lion so how would I install that to my new hard drive. I do have snow leopard and leopard disks as well.

  • @deltaflyer1997 install the hard drive UNFORMATTED. boot your mac, insert install disc, restart. mac will boot from disc, before install, format hard disc from the utilities menu (you may have to click cancel on the setup, or the setup may offer to format for you, i don't remember). If you do format it, select the entire volume, extended nfs (journaled), name is MacHD or something. now do the setup and install to the HD. on completion, update before anything else. you're done!

  • Can anyone recommend a good hard drive brand/make for iMac replacment. im not sure which hardrive i need. im looking for good performance.

  • @DeanStreetDesigns western digital black, 5 year warranty, 7200rpm, 8mb cache or more, sata (duh), any size ( 500gb or 1tb is good for most users)

  • really helpful video. thanks! wanted to ask for some advice. To install OS X on new hard drive would i just need to use the instal dvd/cd?

  • Lol! (Real men turn the screws without a screwdriver!!)

  • @BoxingCombatant nope, not an internal one. the mother board has 2 sata connections and one is for the disc drive. i guess you could replace the disc drive with a hard drive, but you would probably have to do something about the thermometer because it expects to be measuring the temperature of the disc drive. you can add an external hard drive, though. ;)

  • @mikey5110 umm, I hope you're being sarcastic. dell optiplex is like the easiest computer to open, ever. you can remove the hard drive in less than 30 seconds.

  • i wish windows computers was this easy to open

  • can i add second HDD on my iMac 2011?

  • @adrianskillitovich A suction cup. I picked mine up at a dollar store.
