I am running OS X Lion so how would I install that to my new hard drive. I do have snow leopard and leopard disks as well.

install the hard drive UNFORMATTED. boot your mac, insert install disc, restart. mac will boot from disc, before install, format hard disc from the utilities menu (you may have to click cancel on the setup, or the setup may offer to format for you, i don't remember). If you do format it, select the entire volume, extended nfs (journaled), name is MacHD or something. now do the setup and install to the HD. on completion, update before anything else. you're done!

Yea, but you have to do it right. Do some real research before you start. If you don't know what TDP or thermal compound is, chances are you should read up a bit more.

Can anyone recommend a good hard drive brand/make for iMac replacment. im not sure which hardrive i need. im looking for good performance.

western digital black, 5 year warranty, 7200rpm, 8mb cache or more, sata (duh), any size ( 500gb or 1tb is good for most users)
