Snowmobiles have since replaced reindeer as the choice means of transportation for most residents of Finnish Lapland. However, the Sami people still use reindeer for some means. We met up with these locals, known as reindeer herders, and took a quick lesson on how to strap up a reindeer to a sleigh and guide it through the wilderness. The journey started in daylight and ended in darkness and also included a traditional meal cooked over and open fire and on the menu were Lapland pancakes topped with local, wild blueberries and Finnish sausage.
