Here is a tribute video to my favorite NFL team of all time: The 1969 Minnesota Vikings. This video is from my old YouTube Channel (Bloblaw005), and was pretty popular with all the "Old School" -- or is that "Old SKOL" -- Vikings fans out there (over 70,000 plays). Enjoy!

NOTE: This is a re edited expanded version of the Joe Kapp 1969 Minnesota Vikings Purple People Eaters Tribute video I posted on Feb. 16 2008. I was never really happy with the first tribute video as I felt like I rushed it and didn't put in all the music and photos I wanted to use. I feel this is a much better video, as I took the time to put it together right -- in my humble opinion -- and to use the music that generates much more emotion. With that said, let me continue with the copy I posted with the first video:

Here is a little music video I put together as a tribute to Joe Kapp and the 1969 Minnesota Vikings. To me the '69 Vikes were the BEST NFL TEAM EVER... period...Of course I was only 11 years old at the time, but my whole adolescent life was consumed with the Minnesota Vikings. I ate drank slept and bled purple... my room was painted purple... I begged my parents to move to Bloomington, so I could see the Vikings play at the famed Metropolitan Stadium..... etc. etc. etc.... well you get the point.

Anyway some almost 40 years later, I have acquired quite a Sports Memorabilia Collection of Joe Kapp and the 1969 Minnesota Vikings goodies. So I thought I'd scan a few photos, set them to some great NFL Music, and let it roll....I hope you enjoy watching this tribute as much as I enjoyed putting it together....

Oh one last thought: I think I owe part of my career in television to Ed Sabol Steve Sabol and NFL Films. The show "This Week In Pro Football" was the original music video show... years ahead of MTV. NFL Films was the BEST at putting incredible music and voice overs to awesome football action. I used to sit mesmerized... soaking up every little nuance of highlight footage they aired... who knew that would plant a seed....

Here is a list of the songs I used in the order they play on my video:

Audio Track 1: Let's Go Big "O" . Autumn Thunder: 40 Years Of NFL Music. Disc 2 Cut 10 TRT 2:30

Audio Track 2: March To The Trenches. Autumn Thunder: 40 Years Of NFL Music. Disc 2 Cut 13 TRT 2:40

Audio Track 3: Big Game America. Autumn Thunder: 40 Years Of NFL Music. Disc 2 Cut 2 TRT 2:38

Audio Track 4: Rainbows To The End Zone. Autumn Thunder: 40 Years Of NFL Music. Disc 2 Cut 3 TRT 2:50

You can get the whole Autumn Thunder collection at Barnes Noble for about 86.00...

  • The '69 Vikings won the NFL Championship game 27-7 over Cleveland and like most of America at that time considered the Super Bowl more of an all-star game as the stands were only half full in those years and was not nearly the world spectacle it is today. The '69 Chiefs were also a great team but as good as they were they were still 13 point underdogs to the mighty Vikings. It's clear the Vikings underestimated the Chiefs in what was an anti-climatic game for them after becoming NFL Champs.

  • @rp49er So my home state team HAS won "the big one" - woo hoo! That's our story, and let's stick to it. You da man!

  • @ 9:40...ENTHUSIASTIC !

  • Thanks for this video. I have been a Vikings fan since 1969 starting with this season, and in my opinion this was their greatest season even though it ended with a SB loss. That was sort of a one time fluke where they unfortunately blew the game off and didn't prepare for it properly. The Vikings ended up beating the Chiefs quite handily the beginning of the following season with essentially the same teams only without Joe Kapp who went to the Patriots. Thanks again for this vid

Hey man I like this............I'm starting to think I no longer need to look for reasons why the Vikings lost tio the Chiefs.

Heck, they beat Cleveland, that makes them NFL Champions,......... lets' leave it at that !!

  • One of the all-time "mighty men" of the NFL. Joe's phrase that year was 40 for 60 meaning 40 men playing together for 60 minutes of football. The '69 Vikings were one of the greatest teams of all time winning 12 straight games in a 14 game season, scoring the most points in the NFL and permitting the fewest. That Purple Gang defense was one of the top 3 all-time setting every record that season. Joe's 7 td passes against Colts still an NFL record. The NFL Championship was biggest prize in '69.

  • @6:09.............TRAGIC !!
