Tulane University's Scott S. Cowen Institute for Public Education Initiatives, Citizens for 1 Greater New Orleans, the Urban League of New Orleans and the Business Council of New Orleans and the River Region held a forum on "The State of Public Education in New Orleans."

Tulane President Scot Cowen made opening remarks. Paul Pastorek, superintendent of education for the State of Louisiana, was the keynote speaker. A panel discussion and question-and-answer session included Matt Candler, chief executive officer of New Schools for New Orleans; Flozell Daniels, chair of the Urban League of New Orleans; Barbara MacPhee, past principal of New Orleans Science and Math High School; and Tony Recasner, principal of Green Charter School. Ruthie Frierson, chair of Citizens for 1 Greater New Orleans, made opening remarks.

The event was a communitywide, open forum to discuss how community members can serve as advocates for the children who are the future of the Crescent City.
