Love Bites Chapter 22

I woke up and stretched, reaching my hand out. Nothing. I shot up, awake. Where was Joe?

I got ready and pulled out my phone. A few rings passed.

Demi: Hey Selena, have you seen Joe?
Selena: Yeah, hes out though . . . you know.

Oh, right, hunting.

Demi: Oh, just asking—
Selena: Yeah, I know he stays with you. Miley is constantly tortured by your guys thoughts. (She laughed)
Demi: Oh my god, thats so embarrassing! (I blushed and heard a knock at my door) Hey, Selena, Ill call you later. Or maybe Joe will stop by . . . (I smiled)
Selena: (Laughing) He will. Bye.

I hung up and answered the door.

Demi: Josh! (I jumped and hug him) Come in, come in.
Josh: Geez Demi, I didnt think youd be so happy to see me. (He chuckled)
Demi: We havent talked in a while. (I smiled)
Josh: I know, youve been busy. (He sighed) So hows Joe?
Demi: Joes great. I mean, REALLY great. (I blushed and he laughed)
Josh: Haha, wow! Too much information. Wheres David?
Demi: Hes working. (I sighed)
Josh: On a weekend?
Demi: Yup.

We walked upstairs and into my room.

Josh: Id sit on your bed but I know whats happened there.
Demi: (Laughing) Oh . . . sorry.

Me and Josh hung out for a really long time. He got a call from his mom and he had to go home.

Demi: Do you really have to go? (I sighed)
Josh: Yeah, weve been talking for hours. I gotta go.
Demi: Well hang out soon! (I hugged him tightly and waved as he left)

I barely sat on the couch when the doorbell rang. I sighed aloud and went to answer it.

Demi: Joe. (I smiled)
Joe: Demi. (He smiled than it faded) Who was that?
Demi: Who?—Oh, Josh. You know hes my friend.

He nodded and walked in. We sat on the couch and he smiled.

Joe: Im so happy I found you. Or, you found me.

He played with my fingers.

Demi: Youre not as happy as I am.
Joe: Demi, Ive waited years and years for you.
Demi: Have you dated anyone before me?

He cleared his throat as if there was anything to clear. Leftover blood?

Joe: There were some.
Demi: Go on. (I smiled and he rolled his eyes)
Joe: There was Katelyn in the 20s, Jenna in the 50s, and I was supposed to be with Selena, but we were just friends & Kevin found Nick for her. Plenty of others but I could never remember their names. (He laughed) No big deal.
Demi: (Laughing) Right.
Joe: What about you? (He grinned)
Demi: Only some boy in 7th grade named Nate. He kind of fell off the face of the earth and I never saw him again. I kind of took that as a breakup. (I sighed)
Joe: Nate?
Demi: Yeah, we were great but then he disappeared. (I shrugged)
Joe: Hm, strange . . .

His eyes were brighter than ever. I leaned forward and kissed him. My eyes widened and I pulled away.

Joe: Whats wrong?
Demi: You just ate and I can taste the blood.

I grimaced and he laughed.
