Hi, I'm Tracey Michol and I am asking the Texas Legislature to vote on and pass House Bill 978, the Texans with Disabilities Act.

Unfortunately, talented Texans with disabilities still experience discrimination on the job. This not only hurts the employee but also hurts the employer from benefiting from the contributions of the disabled on the job.

House Bill 978 conforms Texas law with changes at the federal level signed into law last year by President Bush, clarifying what disabilities are protected, such as cancer, diabetes and M.S. or multiple sclerosis.

The federal changes had bipartisan support, as well as the support of the United States Chamber of Commerce. House Bill 978 would update Texas law to mirror the federal changes; thus allowing the Texas Workforce Commission Civil Rights Division to enforce these provisions.

House Bill 978 would also protect disabled veterans coming home from Iraq and Afghanistan and other disabled Texans from being fired due to their disability, thus keeping these folks off government assistance and saving taxpayer dollars.

House Bill 978 protects the disabled Texans in the workplace and allows them to contribute their God given talents. Support House Bill 978, the Texans with Disabilities Act.

  • Wait, I thought Bill 978 had something to do with copyrighted materials and the internet. Please explain. Is it different in Texas?

If it's what you're saying, I support all the way :D

  • @Gigakoops, HB 978 was a Texas House Bill passed and signed by Governor Perry in 2009. The bill was in support of people with disabilities in Texas, aligning state law with the amendments to the Americans with Disabilities Act signed by President Bush in 2008.

  • @TraceyandFriends Oh, didn't see the date. Sorry. But I would have been for this all the way were it still in it's un-passed stages.
