Carbon Dioxide will be available forever, but is not suitable for open door installation. Halons have been deleted 15 years ago. Novec 1230 it works only indoor and is not suitable for deep fires as burning oil

...Therefore in case or true fire (not theorical test as shown) the transformer will never stop to burn and will explode.
Sorry if I do not speak well 'your' language, but before to open your mouth, you should connect your brain. Ciao [end]

...The ceramic high voltage insulators in case of deflagration will be shot as rockets in the sky at least 200 yards far away.
To avoid oll of that, the fire needs do not be fed by oxygen. Medium Velocity open spray nozzles (not Sprinklers as written by others) must be carefully spaced and horizonted so to fully cover the machine with a droplets fog. The movie shows that upper and lower nozzle levels are too far between each other and oxygen cans feed the fire... [follow]

I'm 23yrs experienced International Firefighting Engineer, designing FF automatic system worlwide, even for Power Plants, gas & steam turbines, on & offshore petrochemical plants, etc.
Believe me: that system it's really badly designed. A Medium Velocity Water Deluge System (shown) it works only to avoid explosion. A 15kV Oil Transformer, once it's on fire, you cannot extinguish it. Only cooling to prevent oil Flashover that's means explosion...[follow]

@silentknight2112 This is outdoors, ANY air movement will severely hamper the ability of the gaseous system to do its job. As for the high voltage, it appears to all be hidden in conduits, so that is not a problem.
(Those "pipes" entering the top of the transformer are actually grounded conduits containing a --most likely--600volt supply from a generator)

@sprinkler66 You are not helping your case by your poor use of grammar, wording, spelling and punctuation.
You do not know the reasoning behind this particular application of a deluge system, how can you know if it is bad or not? One cannot take precautions against every conceivable scenario. They have merely taken precautions against some scenarios that worry them the most.

they shud use a baking-soda extinguishing system....
-
Now you can use NoOozzle to create a deluge system.
You cant use gas extinguishing systems in open-air. It's just not effective that way.

well if that transformer was on line when they set off the sprinklers it will give it a nice cold bath, which can help if the unit was over heating and prevent it from starting a fire, but i agree water and electric dont go well together
