please support "Katie's Bill" as we change legislation so that students/graduates who fall short of achivieving their life time dream because of an illness or devastating event can get an honorary license in the state of Michigan. Katie Viger is a 23 year old graduate of the Henry Ford Community College nursing program in May 2009. In August, 2009, she was diagnosed with an aggressive form of brain cancer just days before she was to take the NCLEX exam to receive her nursing license. Katie has told her family that she wished that she would have received her nursing license. Sadly, Katie's battle with cancer is in its final stages and when the Michigan department of community health was notified, I was told there was "no such thing." If I wanted a license for Katie, I would have to contact the governor's office. To make a long story short, Senator Ray Basham has submitted a bill request to allow the Department of Community Health to grant an honorary nursing license to Katie, however it takes weeks for a bill to be drafted. We need your help to contact your senators and representatives to make this happen for Katie and for all those who face this. Please let your voice be heard today. go to www.michigan.gov and search for your senator or representative and have them contact Senator Ray Basham or contact Senator Ray Basham yourself, who is in full support of this. Please pass this on to everyone you know. Thank you for listening. God Bless Katie Viger and her family!
