Vintage Soundesign AM/FM Cassette Boombox Model 4689

Here is a Soundesign Boombox that I picked up at the Chateau Le Goodwill for $12.99. It has a full logic type cassette mechanism with a music search feature, and a button for selecting how many songs to skip over. There was a sticker on top that stated that the cassette player did not work. I spent HOURS troubleshooting and trying to fix the problem. There was a crack in the plastic mount that holds the tension spring that raises the tape head mechanism up and puts tension on the take-up reel capstan. I finally fixed that, and found there was another problem, which involved disassembling the whole tape mechanism. There was a small gear that drives the pressure wheel for the take-up capstan that had a length-wise crack in it. I dabbed some super glue inside it, put it back on and assembled everything else, not expecting it to work anymore, but it did, and now I found out that the main belt is too loose to accurately drive the music search function, so now I've gotta find one of those... But it sounds great!! LOL

Thanks! I did have to repair a broken spring in the cassette mechanism. It must have broken early on, I don't think the cassette player got much use. Thanks for watching~

I find most of them at local thrift stores, such as Goodwill and Savers.

that's not full logic control... only mechanical "assist", or "soft touch" control..
