I believe I commented about this before but I'm not sure. I do think it's good to remove the twines and loosen the hay because you never know what's in it. Through the years I have found many things in it, of which the most dangerous ones were pieces of barb wire and dead animals (of which the latter can poison en entire bale and even kill a horse!).
