most rc planes have some. and why? mmmmh, for acrobatics? in this case to fly very small circles to use thermal lift? to use them as plain flap (maybe this could be usefull in f3k competition)? u can use them also for better gliding or slower flying...there is also an elevator @ the tail of the plane. and a rudder. u can use them for acrobatics. in this case to fly very small circles to use thermal lifting...... oh, i repeat myself... sorry , my english is not very good.

those are elevons (elevator and ailerons) Flaps slow an aircraft down and increase lift when coming into land, flaps are found on giant scale rc planes and 15m+ wingspan gliders.
