It's wierd - I seem to remember all these scenes being in the movie. One of the best horror flicks EVER. It's a shame there so few of them that work like this. I'm glad this was made before cgi was invented.

someone should put the 2011 deleted scenes here as well, my damn dvd wont play them.

It is the dog escaping the camp.

Where's The Alternate Ending

For Christ's sake people! Jans Bolan is Lars! The official "TheThingPrequel's" channel mentioned it when it was still in theaters. They explained that Jans Bolan sounded more Dutch than Norweigan so they changed it to Lars! Yes we all know what the hell were they thinking when they changed an important element from the original, but that's it! . I read this a while back on one of their videos so don't give me shit saying it's false. ENDING DEBATE

@TheJediCharles Either way as much as i hate CGI the prequel told an awesome story even if they left out or messed up any details. the film was an amazing idea cuz as a kid i always wondered what happened. now they need a good sequel to further and or close the story.

Not necessarily "messed up."
The explosions could have been to merely gain access to the sub-frozen ship, to tunnel to it, which you see them laddering down. The remainder of ice was melted away by the warmed-up craft during the escape attempt. The damage on the spacecraft that McReady observed was from the grenade-induced chain explosion.
This all adds up to what McReady found, but wrongly assumed the blasts were more vast.

@RolloT1247 The only thing i noticed getting messed up was the space craft in the ice. in the 82 version they show em blowing up the ice to get to it where in the prequel they dig it up.

Thank God for the editors. It looked like this had MST3K levels of potential cut any other way.

@Sithkiss very possible but who was the running away guy and why? Bennings was looking at the dog kennel so he must have seen the remaints.
OK ppl the guy blinked because he was an actor and on film sets they shoot and shoot and shoot before the actual take occurs.
