This week we take you inside the local open air market, where thousands of items are sold by hundreds of vendors every day. It's insanely busy and there are strange and interesting things at every turn.

  • Fried bananas! Are they anything like fried plantains? Kinda dumb question, but I had the plantains in the Dominican Republic and they were great with salt--and dipped in ketchup! I secretly thought they might be healthier than french fries...but who knows? They could have been boiled in any kind of fat/oil mixture.

  • @FeverSwarm I've never had fried plantains, but I imagine they are very similar. The fried bananas here basically taste like potatoes and have that texture as well. They are often served in a light tomato sauce with onions. Good stuff!

  • Thanks for sharing. My third graders are going to love this clip and it will really bring the story they are reading to life for them.
