Some of the new CGI was good such as working on assembly line ,and cleaning up some of enviroments to make them look less like a campus after hours or adding in more extras. Some of the CGI was cringe worthy such as the CGI version of the Lola racecar zooming around like an XBOX game. The older version seems to work better its gritty and that adds to the film.

THX 1138 was actually the stormtrooper that luke took care of in the novel adaptation of Star Wars ep. VI

Orwells world was more of a Tyrannical Dictatorship Police state.

THX 1138 is a dystopia run by machines. Its a collectivist idea that labor is a burden of man that can be taken over by Robots.

Look into the Venus Project and you will see there are people who actually want to create this kind of reality.

A society of interdependence.

I want to see where the dude's getting beat. I pulled out The Downward Spiral earlier and the opening to Mr. Self Destruct has a sound clip in it from this movie.

No, I agree wholeheartedly...and I do CGI. The problem is that they *over use* it. CGI should never be used for main characters in a movie, but only for hardware (ships, etc.) & some backgrounds. There's no "wonderment" when they use CGI. Everyone knows it's just a bunch of 1s and 0s & that it doesn't really exist. There's no --solidity-- to CGI. I'd rather see exceptional real-world models (the mother ship in Close Encounters, Discovery in 2001, L.A. 2019 in Blade Runner & so on).

I think overuse per se is a cliche, one can always throw even more resources at it and make it look natural and in place, positive examples are Spielberg's A.I. and Pirates of the Carribean series.

The problem with Lucas CGI re-edits is bad direction generally, that he inserts it to show-off and not because it makes sense, and doesn't make the effort to do it properly even - they're childish.

Also, changes on material which became classic are almost never a good idea.
