My friend Jeff is the first to find a fossil ammonite when a bunch of us Terminal Reality employees went on a fossil hunt.

  • That site appears to be in the lower Eagle Ford formation (Britton shale). Actually some of those red concretions may contain crabs if ya know what to look for. ;-)

  • Most of the gray clay was deposited during the flood of 2006 and that little creek bed used to be about 1/100th the size it is now. It really is an amazing testament to the power of nature. Lots of fossilized tunnels and ammonite pieces down there but didn't see any crabs

  • That's a "Metoiceras" ammonite. The crabs out there are "Notopocorystes".

  • This was my first fossil hunting trip since 1993. I didn't know what I was doing or what I was getting into. ;-)

  • Jeff did you check to see if the whole ammonite wasnt under the surface ?Looks like you peeled up the first bits only.
