This video gives insight of the 6-week leadership institute co-directed by Mr. Carlton Ashby and Mrs. Tanya R. Liverman. It was held at Six Mount Zion Baptist Temple, under the leadership of Dr. Pastor Jerome Barber. The students attended and committed to learning skills that would make them successful leaders.

They followed a rigorous curriculum, including Kouzes & Posner's "The 5 Practices of an Exemplary Leadership," having a positive paradigm, Stephen D. Covey's "The 7 Habits of Highly Effective People, and "The 21 Irrefutable Laws of Leadership" by John Maxwell."

Some prominent leaders visited the students and others were featured as field trips. These leaders were: Career Pathways: Ann Ifekwunigwe; Hampton City Schools Administrator: Violet Whiteman; CEO Grace Industries: Mr. Bill Grace; Newport News Mayor: The Honorable McKinley L. Price, DDS; Curriculum Coordinator: Vivian Walker; Education Consultant: Elondra Napper, Ed.S; Newport News Public Schools Superintendent: Dr. Ashby Kilgore; Director of Student Leadership of Newport News Public Schools: Dr. Darwin Mills; Nutrition & Education Director Foodbank of the Virginia Peninsula: Jacquelyn Linder; Career Cafe; Virginia State Delegate: Mrs. Jeion Ward; Newport News Commonwealth Attorney: Howard E. Gwynn; Minister Vernon Woodard; Hampton Roads Educators Credit Union: Stephanie M. Adams- Marketing Coordinator; 8th Grade Teacher for Hampton City Schools: Mr. Kevin Hinds; ODU Graduate: Elliott Clark; Financial Advisor: Joseph Fernandes; Commercial Lender at Old Point Bank: Thaddeus Holloman; Congressman Bobby Scott; & Business Consultants C.W. Hines & Associates.

In addition, the students visited the Great National Blacks in Wax Museum in Baltimore, MD and had a full trip to Washington, DC.
