The state funeral of John F. Kennedy took place during the three days that followed his assassination on Friday, November 22, 1963, in Dallas, Texas.

The body of President Kennedy was brought back to Washington, D.C. and placed in the East Room of the White House for 24 hours. On the Sunday after the assassination, his coffin was carried on a horse-drawn caisson to the U.S. Capitol to lie in state. Throughout the day and night, hundreds of thousands lined up to view the guarded casket. Representatives from over 90 countries attended the state funeral on Monday, November 25. After the Requiem Mass at St. Matthew's Cathedral, the late president was laid to rest at Arlington National Cemetery in Virginia.

  • At the hospital, as the priest said his blessing over her husbands corpse, Mrs. Kennedy had taken a ring from her finger and placed it on his. And so she took the ring from her finger, and placed it in his hand. That line Senate Majority Leader Mike Mansfield repeated five times in his choked eulogy at the presidents funeral.

  • Really cool that you found this. How come the speaker keeps mentioning "She took the ring from her finger, and placed it in his hand?"

  • Remarkable video, which I've never seen before. Thank you.

  • Jackie made us proud during those terrible, cold and dark November days. She not only kept steadfast composure during that time, she put together a funeral that showed such dignity & historical reference. It showed the world how things should be done. And to think, at the end of the day, she had a birthday party for her fatherless little boy.

  • It's amazing that the US wasn't the only country mourning. There's a video somewhere that shows people from many different countries and many different religions mourning in their own way.

  • On the way back from Dallas, Mrs. Kennedy requested information from the Lincoln funeral 98 years earlier. Researchers went for 24 hours in the Library of Congress to make this funeral the way it was!

  • I'm sure people look at the footage and wonder why the quality is so lacking, forgetting digital electronics was available in 1963.

But the amazing thing about Kennedy's funeral is basically all the arrangements were made in just over 2 days. I can't figure out how it was put together so quickly.

  • DieuAmour forgot her happy pills.

  • I deleted them coz you sent it to me 7 times but I did read this link.

  • I won't be looking at the Jeff Fisher crap.
