Great questions!
Aquarium water would work best as it should be free from chemicals and is most like natural pond water.
You can feed them yeast as well as green water (water with microscopic algae) Just be careful not to put to much yeast in at a time. I'd add a few grams of dry active yeast to around 100mL of water. Then add 10 mL or so of this at a time.
