I have this on dvd. I watch it solely for Mr. Dalton's performance. Ms Clarke's is really one of the worse that I have seen. I've watched it many times and I can never place her interpretation in the period that she is playing...she seems too modern both in her body movements (look at how she reacts when he says she would rather not sit by him...she does a little pop-up) and manner of speaking. No depth of emotion, at least not for me. Contrast her with Samantha Morton, who is stunning.

Love the role reversal...when it comes full circle....Jane does to Rochester what he did to her with Blanche......to elicit his jealousy and finally a proposal :D

@Bradderz407 The 2006 version is my second favorite; I miss the 1840's dialogue of the book in that one even though I just love the cinematography and the chemistry between Ruth and Toby.

@pacemoy could't agree more about the ending and although Michael Fassbender makes a pretty good Rochester, there's something missing. I appreciate you can't fit a whole book into an hour and a half of cinema but there are huge chunks of important parts of the book missing and again the ending was unforgivable. I have to say its still Tim Dalton for 2nd best Rochester and the bbc 2006 version that still stands out for me

I have not seen the 2011 yet BUT I think like this version most. Jane looks plain yet nice and spirited not dull. Rochester is tall, dark strong yet gentle (with Jane at least) - I like the contrast between these 2 actors - than the others.

Vulcan? No He's not Spock-esque at all lol JK

one of my favorite book and one of the best romantic movies! I love this actors! :)
Thank you very much for sharing, Goldenivy17!
The adult Jane is plain just as she's supposed to be, insecure due to her difficult , abusive childhood, yet she's most expressive. If you watch closely for Zelah Clarke's body language, it's absolutely superb, and in full synchron with that of TImothy Dalton\s, in each and every scene, down to the last detail, in a masterpiece manner of acting.

Dalton might be too handsome for this role. But having him here adds a new dimension to the "Jane Eyre" story. Suddenly, Jane Eyre and Mr. Rochester are like a symbolic pairing of the feminist Charlotte Bronte and the handsome poet Lord Byron (who died when Bronte was still a little girl). It's like Bronte wanted us all to see how she would have vanquished and rescued any Byronic hero out of his macho self-destructiveness---by marrying him only when he learns humility.
