Strikingly similar to the layout of Pine Junction, the crossing at Front Street provides a sweet railfanning spot. This location is West of Pine Junction and CP502. The lines featured are the NS Chicago Line, a lightly-used B&O-CSXT line, and the CN-EJ&E Lake Front Branch farthest North. BP's Refinery resides to the South and a park sits North of the tracks on the lake. East Chicago's Arcelor Mittal Mill is visible to the East. A neat place where industrial plants, parks, beach houses, and railroads coexist.

2:05PM-
BNSF power leads a lengthy container intermodal West. Trains move quite slow through here due to the curves further into town.
BNSF C44-9W #4765
NS C40-9W #9187

3:22PM-
CN's once-daily Lakefront Transfer returns East to Kirk with GTW GP38-2 #4927. This is one of the few trains that runs on this line.

3:56PM-
A Throughbred Stack appears from the East and slows as it approaches town.
NS C40-9W #9939
NS SD70M #2591

4:26PM-
Eastbound traffic finally shows up in the form of an intermodal led by an SD70M-2
NS SD70M-2 #2771
NS C40-8W #8434

4:44PM-
Amtrak's Blue Water 364 makes it's run to Port Huron, MI.
P42DC #34
P42DC #36

5:01PM-
A grand daddy old school lash-up leads a manifest East.
NS SD70M #2588
NS C40-8W #8358 (Ex. CR)

  • That AMTRAK was cool. We don't usually see them on the front AND back around here. I, however, have seen SD40Es from NS on the front of AMTRAK before.
