Garage Sales To Help Foster Care Group

Three big garage sales this weekend will benefit Midwest Foster Care.

"Everything on there is really high quality -- toys are clean, everything has to have batteries, has to work. We've got cribs, just everything under the sun," event organizer Amber Weissenbach said.

KMBC's Lara Moritz reported that parents seem to really appreciate the good clothing and toy bargains.

"Good bargains on great toys for kids' birthdays that are coming up soon. We found a couple of matching suits of armor both of our kids can wear and fight with each other," shopper Ashley Lahey said.

"We are foster parents, and we're here because it's a great sale. Found some chairs for my twins," foster mother Mindy Middleton said. "It's nice to come here, because it's consignment, it's affordable and they're giving back to the kids. It's win-win."

"I'm looking for clothes. As fast as they grow, and they didn't come with anything, so anything we can get of value is awesome. Just toys and things that they can have and call their own when they come into the home," foster mother Susan Mulvaney said.

"Missouri only gives a $200 allowance per foster kid per year for clothing -- that's not enough to get them through one season, let alone one year," Weissenbach said.

The Just Between Friends garage sale will be going Thursday through Saturday at Lakeland Community Church at Highway 291 and Colbern Road in Lee's Summit. The hours are 9 a.m. to 7 p.m. Thursday and Friday; 8 a.m. to noon Saturday.

The second garage sale will be held Friday through Sunday at Metro North Mall in Kansas City, Mo. The hours are 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. Friday and Saturday; 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Sunday.

The third garage sale will be held Friday through Sunday at Overland Park International Trade Center. The hours are 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. Friday and Saturday; 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Sunday.
