As part of my application to university, I was asked to create a five-minute showreel of my work. It features clips from various videos I have made to showcase the variety of genres I have tackled. It obviously went down well because I got an offer from every university I showed it too, including my first choice; The Arts Institute at Bournemouth. I'll be starting their renowned 3-year Film Production course in September.
NOTE: This showreel was made before 'Escape Velocity' was finished, and as such features different music ('Saturn, the Bringer of Old Age' - Gustav Holst) to the final version available on youtube.
The Intro and Outro music is 'So Easy' by Röyksopp

I guess the best advice I can give you is to watch as many university application showreels as you can. And don't go overboard. It's gotta make people go 'wow' but not be too effects-driven if you know what I mean. There's got to be a sort of simplicity to it; a lot of showreel are literally just a series of clips. But yeah, watch as many as you can. For AUCB, it also helps to show your more 'artsy' stuff; they like that. Good luck anyway!
