PLANO, Texas -- It's not unheard of to find an alligator roaming in remote parts of Texas, but at least eight have been discovered in the area in just the last few months.

A 1-year-old, 4-foot long alligator was recently found along a west Plano creek bed.

Experts said it's an American alligator, common to North Texas. It is the eighth alligator caught in the Metroplex since the summer.

"There's active population in most of our area lakes and also the east fork of Trinity has got all the alligators you want. But even those places, we're pretty convinced that just like this one, they'll run into people because there's so many people," Plano Outdoor Recreation spokesman Jim Dunlap said.

All of the alligators are being kept in Plano until they can be safely released back into the wild.
