One of the very few grown-ups in the history of SNL.

That last bit ended up being a skit didn't it? With Hartman as a 40's fighter pilot actor?

Phil is great but Dana jimmy Dan and Gilda have him tied

@DJChaps they were both amazing performers, it all comes down to personal preference in the end. I'd put the two of them, Belushi, Aykroyd, Ferrell, Eddie Murphy, and maybe Bill Murray in a league of their own as the best SNL cast members the show's ever seen.

years and he still draws a crowd. He should not be labeled as the second coming of Dan Aykroyd. His genius should be recognized solely and deserves recognition, perhaps even used as measure for future performers. He was Phil Hartman, and with inspirational video like this he will always be Phil Hartman.
Even if he was Canadian :)

How awkward it must be to stand in silence on an empty stage under the microscopic eye(s) of Lorne Michaels and co. Hartman not only made it look easy, but delivered his material with the professionalism of a seasoned veteran. That's because he was. How he managed to fly under the radar for so long is astounding, only known by fellow comedians and the few fortunate enough to see him perform on the small stage. This video is remarkable and truly one of the best moments captured on tape. Fifteen
