Yesterday - The Beatles

Paul McCartney performs his song "Yesterday."

According to the Guiness Book of World Records, "Yesterday" is the most covered song ever written, with over 3000 different versions. McCartney thought of the melody in his head during a dream and wanted to record it. However, he wasn't sure if he had thought it up himself or if he was just remembering something he had heard before. After a few weeks of asking around, he determined that he had written it himself and the band recorded it on June 14, 1965. It was the number one song in the US for a month starting on October 9th (John Lennon's birthday) and continued to be the most played song on the radio for eight consecutive years after its release. In 2004 Rolling Stone Magazine rated it number 13 on its list of the 500 Greatest Songs of All Time.
