Look forward to hearing him every year at King Richard's Faire. Fantastic musician, a thanks for posting this!

This music is very reminiscent of Latvian kokle music. Lovely.

Vince,
I really enjoy watching and listening to you play. I have a couple of hammered dulcimer videos posted. Let's jam sometimes!

I am a hammered dulcimer player who played at the same faire as Vince last fall. This was my experience: Vince openly shared his knowledge about working crowds and playing techniques, he gave me copies of his CDs, and he invited me and my group to play with him many times. That's about as far away as you can get from "trying to get other dulcimer players removed."
Contrary to your bizarre accusations, I found Vince to be a fantastic player, and a kind and generous person.

Sisilaya,
You don't know what the hell you're talking about. You clearly know nothing about music, hammered dulcimers, or Vince. Your comments about his playing and instrument are so inane I'll not dignify them with a defense, but your baseless comments about what you imagine Vince's personality to be like and your outright slanderous claims about "nasty stunts" cannot stand uncontested. (see next post)

I saw this guy IRL just the other day! He was very good; I stood there watching for for quite some time. I shouted Freebird at point too - it's just too tempting not to =3 I bet he could own that song too.
I also wanted to hear some DragonForce. I was a little too embarrassed to shout that out though.

This is the Tam Lyn reel in Ireland, but in Scotland it is called the Glasgow reel. (Same song, different names.)

its the Tam Lyn Reel,,,,,,,

i bet he's a good drummer too.
This comment has received too many negative votes show
That and he puts no soul to his music, whatsoever, he just concentrates on playing fast and impressing his audiance. Which I find very disappointing. I've seen many MANY dulcimer players in my days of going to fairs, and this one rather makes me sad.. I don't like his attitude either. Such an attitude doesn't fit a beautiful instrument like a hammered dulcimer. Urgh.
It's more worth while to look at Dizzi's dulcimer songs. Atleast she -lives- her instrument!

just out of curiosity, what makes you an authority on this? Im not being a jerk about it, rather i am intrested in how you are able to back up this claim. Do you play? if so, How long have you played? Did you ever go to school for music? Did you ever think that he might save more of his feeling for his recordings? Or that he might be fast and flashy to attract attention? Do you know anything about Vince personally?

One of my best friends has played hammered dulcimer for over 12 years, and so I've seen my fair share of the instruments. He's actually the one that showed me this, cause he was quite taken back by his playing style aswell. I am a musician, but not a dulcimer player.
I do know that Vince pulled a few nasty stunts on other dulcimer players at fairs, to get them removed so he didn't have competition. That's what I mean by attitude.

fair enough. i never got that impression. I am sad to hear that. From what i know about him personally he has a rough life and supports himself i believe as a musician only. In anycase he will be in my prayers.

I know how hard it is to live on your musician talents only as a way to support yourself. But I still find it no excuse to play dirty and get other players removed.
I went back last summer and asked the musicians where the other redhead dulcimer player was. Thats how I found out, and was rather galled. And the guy wasnt even hired, he played for fun from what I heard.
