Lavender, flower of eternity, flourishes best in dry and sun-drenched soil. In the old days people used to pick the wild lavender on the ridges, later cultivating it more systematically. This was a great success and the hills slowly changed into a purple carpetland. The soil in this area is an excellent nutrient for wild lavender; one of the two types of lavender, the other lavender is a cultivated variety. People have used lavender for centuries and for all sorts of things from perfume, soap, shampoo and bath salts to medicine and food.
