This is the very first dance I ever choreographed and performed. At the time of this video I had been practicing the art of belly-dance for about 7 months or so. Prior to this I had no formal dance training whatsoever.

I dedicate this dance to my original dance teacher, who taught me classic Egyptian style belly-dance. Although this dance is a Gypsy Fusion, you will see the Egyptian influences especially in the hip work.

The song is by a Gypsy band called Romanyi Rota. The song is called "Korkore Zav Ande Kalyi Ratyi". Enjoy the song! I find it very inspiring.

  • Lovely.

  • Thank you. This song always makes me smile, but I do not know what they are saying. I looked into to it online and saw something about the song being about walking alone at night, picking a flower, on the way to see an ill mother and trying to be optimistic about her health. Would you be willing to translate the lyrics for us into English?

romanyi rota is gypsy wheel. in hungarian > cigány (gypsy) kerék (wheel)

    roma kerék > meaningless

    roma > gypsy mens (plural)
