HEY, READ THIS! This is my video contest entry for CPAC's 2012 (Conservative Political Action Committee) speech contest.

The theme for this years contest is "We Still Hold These Truths," and we were asked to speak about a constitutionally limited government, individual liberty, a free market economy, strong national defense, and preserving traditional values and explain why we still hold these truths and why conservatives must still hold these truths.

If you enjoyed this video, please share it with your friends! Thanks for watching!

--The State of Daniel

**********

The text of the speech is written below:

The America we have today is very different from the America founded in 1776. Different people. New technology. And a larger world. Yet despite the changes we are still connected with the past.

The Constitution has been described as a living, breathing document -- growing over the years -- somehow connecting our founding fathers with all of us today.

It details our founding "First Principles," traditional values. These values don't keep us stuck in the past; instead, they help us find our identity and remember our unique position in the world.

These values are: Constitutionally limited Government, Individual Liberty, Free market Economy, Strong national Defense, and Preserving traditional values.

Now, the reason I still hold these five truths is because they are time tested principles proven to work time and time again. Sarah Palin said it best when she said that "We (conservatives) have a vision for our country, and it is a vision anchored in time tested truths." And that is what Conservatives and the Tea Party are about, and who can argue against that vision when it's a vision by the people and when the government is supposed to be working for the people?

A Constitutionally Limited Government: The founders had it right when they said that few and defined powers should be in Washington DC, and that the most of the power should lie in the hands of the states and the individual. What a beautiful idea that states could govern themselves and that all these different states and a multitude of people could still be UNITED as a singe nation under God.

Individual Liberty: It all comes down to us as individuals and the people in our lives. Being American means that we have the freedom to live and pursue our dreams--that the government shouldn't limit and oppress individual rights, but that it should help build a framework for a society in which people can live their dreams.

A free market economy---this allowed people such as Steve Jobs and Bill Gates to be as successful as they are today. It's the concept that ANY individual can participate in economic functions such as running a small business, and succeed. That government gets out of the way and businesses fail and succeed on their own.

Strong National Defense: We live in a dangerous world with real enemies. Our founding fathers foresaw the threats against liberty and freedom. The intent wasn't too be the world police. Instead, the US must have the strength to defend it's interests at home and abroad. The safety of our people and of all human life is of the utmost importance.

And finally, preserving Traditional values: values that should distinguish us from the rest of the world. Values that preserve human dignity, both for the families in our homes and the everyday individual

These truths are what made America an exceptional nation when our founders laid down the groundwork for our country today. We know America is great, but we hope that she can be exceptional once again. We've just gotta remember to hold on to the time tested anchor that still hold these truths.

These five truths remind us that there is power in each and every one of us -- in you, in me. It reminds us of those stories we loved as children -- for me it's Lord of the Rings -- I don't know what it may be for you -- but it's that story that even the smallest person can make a difference, that all of us are individually responsible for the greater good, that we all play a role in the story of our great nation. There is still hope and good in this broken world, and that's why Conservatives and Tea Partiers are here because we realize there's still a dream--the dream that spans from the founding fathers, to Martin Luther King, to Ronald Reagan, to us, and that dream is worth fighting for.

  • In the CPAC 2012 event one speaker/commentator commented Rachel Maddow should not have been born- And that her parents should have used contraception with her. THATS CPAC FOR YOU! - THE BIGGEST GATHERING OF ALL HYPOCRITICAL MORALISTS WHO CLAIMS THEMSELVES TO BE PRO-LIFE. SELF-RIGHTEOUS CHRISTIAN HYPOCRITES whose definition of christian love extends to only those who share their beliefs. I think they zeroed in badly on the Gospel message!

  • @FBoobieTubie I attended the part where that was said...it was in the context of the contraceptives debate and it was a JOKE. I've heard liberals say nasty jokes about Conservatives too, so get off your high horse.

  • An absolutely brilliant address about what conservatism should be all about. This is a wonderful entry and I expect the people at CPAC will love it! Good luck!

  • @gbtrat Thanks for the encouragement!

  • Good luck with this entry. You are doing great work with your videos.

  • @getawayman1 Awesome! Glad you enjoy them!

In today's words, those who choose security above freedom don't have the freedom to choose their security.

  • lol a "living" interpretation of our constitution is a liberal viewpoint, not a conservative one.

  • @FBoobieTubie so you judge thousands of people cause of a person....... sad just sad

  • @AlainBeauvoir lol your a joke

  • You're joking, right? Threats to our liberty and freedom? Maybe we wouldn't have these threats (and they're not because of our freedom) if we didn't have our own brand of terrorism, aka our foreign policy. And I find it odd many conservatives tout individual liberty while supporting the Patriot Act and being against gay rights...apparently the only family worth honoring is that of Christian heterosexuals. And btw, I'm a religious person, but "under God" was never used by the founding fathers.

  • What traditional values, where are they preserving traditional in the Constitution. Go ahead and quote Palin, she is on your level

  • Nice video. Yes, voting for Ron Paul may be a dream, but I dare to dream. I have faith that he can beat Obama.

  • Well, Newt definitely got the crowd going at the beginning. Romney has a tough time defending Romney care. I'd say overall Newt won it, but Ron Paul rebounded from the other SC debate where he did pretty terrible.

  • @stateofdaniel On the morality issue I agree is in a sad state. Some say it started with Nixon. I disagree he resigned. I honestly believe it started with President Clinton. My son was 10 years old when he was President and asked me what an intern was. Thanks Bill for forcing me to explain to my 10 year old about infidelity. By the way Monica was only 7 years older than this daughter Chelsea.
