San Francisco Rush: Extreme Racing is a video game developed by Atari Games and published by Midway Games. This game was first released in the arcades in 1996 and it was ported to Nintendo 64 in 1997, then it was ported to the Playstation in 1998. San Francisco Rush: Extreme Racing is the first game in the Rush series, and it led to several sequels.

The game is notable because of the high level of detail that went into recreating the city of San Francisco and the fast arcade-style physics and exaggeration of gravity. The game also features a two-player mode and rumble pack support. Hidden shortcuts and jumps add to the replay value of the game. There are also keys to be found which can unlock extra vehicles.

San Francisco Rush: Extreme Racing was released for the Nintendo 64 in 1997. It was developed by Atari Games and published by Midway Games. It improves from its arcade counterpart. It adds a circuit mode which you unlock the code to get to Alcatraz as well as some unlockable cars by finding hidden keys. The Nintendo 64 version added advertisements for Mace: The Dark Age. San Francisco Rush: Extreme Racing was considered to be a successful port on the Nintendo 64 by critics and fans.

San Francisco Rush: Extreme Racing was released for the Playstation in 1998. It was developed by Climax Entertainment and published by Midway Games. Despite for having an identical boxart, the game itself is very different compared to the Nintendo 64 version and much closer to the arcades version and it featured a different soundtrack than both the Arcade and the Nintendo 64 version. The Playstation version adds a feature where you play each level anytime during day or nighttime and this version added new single player and muiltiplayer modes. This version had adversitements for Rampage: World Tour. None of the ports of San Francisco Rush or Rush the Rock: Alcatraz Edition feature all the track music found in the arcade machines. - Wiki

  • Terrible driving

  • @rocket1512 Agreed. If I had a steering wheel...

  • Just to let u all guys know this is not a MAME game its a single file game.

and its NO emulator...at all either..

One thing i do have this game but as a SINGLE game file install like Warcraft for a sample..

Must have the SINGLE FILE GAME

Find the download and burn it on a disk and install then copy the crack files to c. then Glad wrapper then ENJOY :)

DO NOT USE ISO MOUNT or any other program it will now work!!!!!!!!!!!

  • @omar1146 huh? Im playing this in MAME. You obviously know something I dont.

  • How do you get the sound synced then? Now that i think about it, this might not even be MAME.

  • @Bigtymer781 Also If you check the other SF Rush videos I put up after this one, You should be able to tell the difference in sound & visual quality if somewhat minimal.

well, sf rush 2049 special edition from betson enterprises is one of the best arcade racers ever!! i love to see another racing game with these physics!!

they were going to make another racing game with these physics called Hot Rod Rebels, unfortuneately, it was cancelled during development. a prototype beta still exists, but is never released.

  • The days when physics wasn't a factor, and the games were about crazy high speed moon gravity jumps off anything and everything in your way XD

All those pockets of hidden keys and secret shortcuts mostly comprised of precision physics breaking were all win. WIN I SAY!

And the announcer. No good game is complete without an awesome announcer.

  • 3, 2, 1, RUSH!!!!!!!

    classic 90s games

  • psone version is pixelated crap.

  • They need to remake this, keep everything the same but make the graphics better

  • I lost my virginity playing rush :D, they should remaster it in HD for the 360.

  • omg i havent seen this game since i last played it bout 8-10 yrs ago, omg the boardwalk arcades, i now feel like im 10 all over again lol

  • This game owned so hard back in the day.

  • what mame emulator did you use? i'm trying to get audio running at full speed, because audio is kind of bouncing. i currently use mameui, on a toshiba laptop, which one's the best to use.

  • I need your opinion on something. It's about the emulation for San Francisco Rush The Rock Alcatraz Edition. I have it on MAME but the emulation of the game is preliminary. Do you think the emulation for this game should be improved like the original San Francisco Rush racing game?
