@herbaling It's basically my analysis of the song and my knowledge that Hamed is very versed in queer/feminist theory and he and the band like using different narratives in different songs (here it makes a LOT more sense that he's a traditional Arab dude than Hamed/any liberal Arab). I'm pretty sure he or one of his bandmates wrote it and if I'm mistaken can you give me a source that states who wrote this specific song? :)

@bilettuce lol thats funny tell your own leaders that a little boy facing an entire armoured division but the little boy is standing strong as he knows that the right is on his side and that right shall prevail and that history never fails to hold those responsible for these crimes the nazi zionists will be held to their actions sooner than you think

@samneuro12 You aren't familiar with Mashrou Leila, aren't you? All of their songs have a deep reasoning behind them, it's what makes them so unique in the Arab world! Also Arabs who live in the Levant (Sham) and North Africa (Maghrib) speak French a lot because they were colonized by France.

You the one wearing a jacket and trousersI saw you standing on the balcony
Hey mademoiselle I thought you were a guyI beg your pardonI saw you wearing a beret and capGoing to town wearing your house clothesWithout makeup nor perfumeAnd you've cut your hair like a boyHey mademoiselle I thought you were a boyI beg your pardonI saw you goingout at night by yourselfGoing wherever you feel like goingGetting out a place and leavinganother placeHey mademoiselle I thought you were a guyI beg your pardon
@CerebralCreation It's about an female that defies the gender norm and wears her hair short and wears a jacket and pants all the time, Hamed (the writer/singer) here is supposed to be a traditional Arab person/the Arab society in general which is very hetero-normative, he sees her standing on her balcony and he/they assume she is in fact male, because she also goes out all the time even at night when Arab girls aren't expected to be outside their house. The whole song is an apology to her.
