Qt 4.4 can now play video and audio on all supported platforms using the easy-to-use Phonon framework!

It uses GStreamer on Linux/X11, DirectShow on Windows and QuickTime on Mac OS X.

Playback videos, control the video equalizer, and apply audio effects!

I wonder what Qt 4.5 will bring extra for Phonon. Plans for direct audio and video stream manipulation already exist :)

PS: Sorry, no sound! I couldn't capture it correctly. Also, small artifacts are caused by the recording software: recordmydesktop

  • It wasn't the Qt team. It was the KDE team which designed Phonon as its new multimedia framework.

Qt/Trolltech then decided to collaborate with KDE and use Phonon.

  • You are right about that. Although Qt Software (Trolltech) has also contributed a lot to Phonon.

  • Qwakaw: this application is a demo app in Qt 4.4... :) the source is already available when you compile (or install) the demo applications for Qt 4.4
