Caltrain #285 rolls past the Broadway Avenue Station with 5 Bombardier Coaches and a MP36-PH3C #925 in push mode on the rear. Most of the Bombardier sets serve as equipment for Caltrain's Baby Bullet service but this one is being used for limited stops between San Jose and San Francisco. This train will terminate at the San Francisco Depot. Video was taken on 9/14/09 at 7:18pm.

  • @britoca It only runs backward heading north and they can't afford to have two engines on each set, that would definitely be a waste of fuel and more then enough power. If they were to reverse the train, they would have do it at a wye track, and the only one on the route is in San Jose, plus that takes alot of time to switch. After 30-50 minutes at San Jose or San Francisco a train will go back to the other terminus as a different service, so that would be inconvenient for time.

  • why do they run the train backwards?

the back end of the train is not aerodynamic at all, what a waste of fuel

Look how dirty that streamlined engine is from sitting in the smoke going backwards, wtf?! You can see the windshields are kept clean by the wipers.

  • Really? You can see him in the video?
