Ortiz quit against Maidana 'cause he didn't wanna get hit, anymore. If someone pays you millions "under the table" so that you can retire and not get hit anymore, you would take the money. It's cowardly...but sadly logical and practical.

You could either take the $20 million and retire or keep fighting and suffer further brain damage in your next 50 fights, but there is no guarantee that you're going to win all of your future fights [especially with a record like that].
