Foden FD6

Six cylinder supercharged two-stroke engine that arrived at the museum a few weeks ago after being in store for 30 years. Part of a new commercial vehicle engine display for 2009.

This Foden 2 stroke seems rather unstable on starting.

Fault with the hydraulic governor was traced to a relief valve stuck open, this has now been fixed. This video was the first time the engine had been run for a number of years so given that the valve was the only thing wring, not too bad.

This is not a Detroit. Foden made their own 2 stroke Diesels.

i love the 2 stroke diesel sound this one sounds different than the detroits nice engine tho

@tpvalley Yes they was the same as Detroit, in that respect. Two strokes were never popular here in the UK.

do u know if the layout is the same as detroit? ie exhaust valves and inlet ports?

I like the sound of those old two strokes. The Foden does have a different sound than Detroit 6-71.
