Bill Gates did not bill for logic gates. But... Bill once said that 640KB would be enough for everybody. The prediction was wrong. Windows kept eating more and more memory. Now the users pay for 3-4GB. Fairly large Bill.

Just like Apple has been a bipolar oscillator (ups and downs), Jobs had his own ups and downs (sometimes job-less).
