Somebody needs to track the "carbon footprint" of a movie, from pre-production to filming to distribution.

Al gore does not clearly knows what being open and being totally honest if it HITS yet he tells us to walk and go on our bikes instead of our cars and yet he tried fool us that uses public planes yet he causes additional pollution from using his own jet yet he can't admit he uses a private jet but he's been found out and I can't find anywhere on u tube to admit he's lied to the US people what a coward he is at least UK politicians admit to their mistakes not compared too US congressmen whom jus

that fast, you better believe that the earth is going to be able to handle a small amount of exhaust that comes out of my car! You go along with your phony liberal all knowing nothing president obama and all your other liberal brain washed friends that are wrong. Build your "grass hut" and "ride your bike" to your mothers house. But the time will come where your liberal nut case friends will fall...
I agree Al Gore is inconsistent. But Hannity is challenged with regards to mathematics. 21 pounds of CO2 per gallon x 450 gallons = 9450. That would also assume the tank was empty when he landed.

Hannity was correct. 75% of the weight of the CO2 doesn't come from the fuel itself, but the oxygen in the air.
A carbon atom has a weight of 12, and each oxygen atom has a weight of 16, giving each single molecule of CO2 an atomic weight of 44 (12 from carbon and 32 from oxygen).
Burning jet fuel creates 21 pounds of CO2 per gallon. So Gore's plane creates 9,493 pounds of CO2 per hour or 55,000 pounds for his 5.5 hour one-way flight.

@rustybx The fuel tank has a 450 gallon capacity. If all of it was burned at 21 lbs. of CO2 per gallon, you would create 9450 lbs. of CO2. There is nothing in the piece that indicates the rate of fuel consumption. For his numbers to work, they would have to land and refuel every hour.

Check your numbers again. They're way off.
The standard fuel load for a GII is 28,300 lbs or roughly 4,000 gallons.
A GII burns 550 gallons an hour cruising at 460 knots and considerably more at 581 knots max.
The impact of Gore flying a GII may be debatable but Hannity's calculations for the GII's CO2 emissions are reasonable. With an aggressive pilot or demanding passenger the emissions are likely worse.

@rustybx If it burns 550 gallons per hour, your calculations are correct. The video says that the fuel tank is 450 gallons. That is different from the 4,000 gallons that you claim is the capacity.

@rantingcurmudgeon
Yep. The video mistakenly claims a 450 gallon tank for the 1977 GIIb. It should have said the jet burns 450 gallons per hour. The CO2 numbers in the video are for 450 gallons per hour...which is slightly less than the burn rate at normal cruising speed. So the numbers are slightly understated.
Specs for the GII are widely available on the web - 28,300 lbs fuel capacity (~4,000 gallons).
