The beginning of the famous 1968 radio interview (which served as the basis for the "Whatever Became of Leo Gorcey?" book article), with Leo Gorcey as the amiable, but slightly hungover interviewee.
In Part 1, the native New Yorker returns to his roots for the 1st time in 20 years!

interesting how people would look into the camera as it was filming on the street. today,so many people would just ignore it and keep walking about their biz. it was still a novelty at that time, which judging by the fashion, signs, prices, and cars;was long long, before this interview of 1968 was given.

We were watching one of the series tonight and I was reminded once again how Gorcey was really the one holding those films together--they seemed to have given him the most dialogue too, which he did beautifully (a mouthful of malpropisms for one thing--quite a bit to handle--and they did these films with probably no more than two takes, which shows what a professional he was). Thanks for presenting this!

The Bowery Boys flicks just weren't the same after Leo left the series. Stanley Clements was an OK actor, but just wasn't funny. It is indeed sad that the late great Leo had such a bad drinking problem. Too much booze had shortened the lives of so many gifted performers. But thanks so much for posting all these fascinating interviews!

It's too bad Leo was addicted to alcohol, otherwise he likely would have had a longer life. Leo's last Bowery Boys movie, Crashing Las Vegas, is a good film but sad to see Leo inebriated in many scenes and he was despondent over recently losing his father. Leo also appears a bit tipsy in a few scenes of Dig That Uranium, Leo's dad's last BB movie. The Stanley Clements films are a mixed bag, Hot Shots, Hold That Hypnotist, and Up In Smoke are the best ones. Spook Chasers is mildly funny also.
