A line of severe storms moved through Louisville, KY during the 6PM newscast on WLKY-TV on the evening of July 6, 1987. The station lost power but soon came back on the air under emergency lighting and backup power. This is part of the 11PM newscast that night with meteorologist John Belski, anchor Liz Everman, and sportscaster Fred Cowgill. This includes a quick weather update during the evening, the opening segment of the news with a report on the damage from reporter Mike Schuh, and the weathercast that evening.

  • Wow, that takes some stones to suggest that this was the worst storm to hit the Louisville area since the Super Outbreak. Is that the actual case or were they just dropping some hyperbole for effect?

  • if memory serves me right I believe in terms of trees and power lines down it was indeed the worst since 1973.

  • He looks a lot younger. I hated those old radars. When they showed the local one with the county boundaries at 5:54 was ridiculous. The boundaries for Scott County, Indiana (the most northern one on the map) has the boundary lines from the 1840's!

  • Wow... that's just awesome!!
