Having gone through Right thyroidectomy because of a nodule and am currently getting ready to remove the left lobe of the thyroid because of another nodule. It is NOT prudent to wait up to 18 months. Be politely agressive with your doctor to have those masses removed. If left too long the "nodules" can block your airway and cause great pain in the neck.
[Production hint: Ask the guy interviewing you to sit down so that when you do look away from the camera you're not looking up over it, which isn’t as flattering. Avoiding having the camera pick up the lower half of the whites of your eyes as the shape of a canoe is a good guide.]
