The etymology of fruit names?

Another Josh-monopolised video, I'm afraid. For fun, count the number of times he uses the word "civilisation".

In this vlog we discuss how so much fruit has simply bizarre names, and question from where these names might have originated.


EDIT: We've been doing these "HD" videos for almost three months now, and they still look rubbish. What ARE we doing wrong?!

What about raspberries? Were two people having a conversation something like this?

"What should we name this fruit?"

"I don't know, let's taste it." *tastes it, and discovers he's allergic"

*cough, gak!* "Oh no! I'm allergic! What happened to my voice? It's raspy!"

"I know! It looks like a red blackberry and it makes you talk with a rasp! Let's call it a rasp-berry!"

Haha! Actually, the dutch call more or less every fruit a apple of some sort. Example: orange = aardappel.

In one of your other videos I watched earlier you had some bad orange juice, where you said it was too yellow, and I thought, well what colour is orange juice supposed to be? D'oh!

I actually went out and bought some after that, and on the way home I was wondering why they only called it orange, or if they were sitting around naming colours after fruits?
