While i dis-like like American journalism and American mainstream media, he could have handled this a bit more subtle. and besides that, calling the people you work with 'stupid' may not really be a 'nice' thing to do, it is nescessary sometimes. especially for a position he's in. I wonder if the criticizing Americans realize how things behind the political curtain could possibly be 'off-record' by any media recording mechanism. Some defend Sarkozy; 'Stupid American culture!', yet he loves it...

Americans have no culture!
How dare she ask a man, the head of the French Republic, about his personal life, it's outrageous! When he speaks publicly, it is not as "Nicolas", it is as Monsieur le Président de la République. His personal life is not of anyone's business.
But you silly Americans know nothing of public and private, for you, everything is just a show, your presidential campains and primaries make me sick. Discuss politics, ideos, like intelligent people, instead of making a show!

It's her job to ask question! She is a journalist!
Sarkozy is so rude and haughty with people.
A lot of French people do not like him! A lot of them regret their vote!
He destroys little by little healthy system in France ( hospital), education system,...
So, it's time to change president.

OOO please He is not a people he is president I don't like him but I think I did a good choice

@The5highkids i know a lot about french politics... I was wondering if he was talking to his press secretary.
very easy explanation to the shock this might provoke in americans: in france, personal life has NT to do with politics and we dont give a shit whether bill clinton is cheating on his wife as long as he can do a good job of being president. sarkozy might be a shame to france (i concur) but not because his wife left him - the interviewer should have known better.

What a stupid woman, she should have understood that France is not like the US. People don't discuss their personal affairs no matter the situation.
