On July 28, 2008 CUPE members attended simultaneous rallies across the country to fight Air Canada's plan to eliminate hundreds of jobs and close bases in Halifax and Winnipeg.
A.C. uses 6 cabin crew on the 767 on its Toronto-South America routes. American Airlines, from Chicago-South America, uses a minimum of 8. This makes a huge difference in the service quality you receive. I am not making excuses for poor service. I am telling you the facts. As employees we have to constantly pressure A.C. to give us to tools to do our jobs. As passengers, please also demand more out of your travel experience. If you arent happy w/ the service, dont be shy, write to Air Canada.
When a company keeps cutting staff and asking more and more of employees, something has got to give. You cant reasonably expect that the existing employees will do the work of 2 employees. People pay a lot & we try hard to make your flight pleasurable, but there comes a point when employees can only give so much & service starts to suffer. Sometimes there just aren't enough crew to go around & we WILL forget customer requests & not be able to give you the service that you feel you paid for.
As much sympathy as I have for workers, i don't think you understand the service industry in a good light. As a customer, I am innoncent. i don't know, and don't need to know what goes on in ur company. I paid a whole lot of saved up money for a ticket. It may not seem much to you, but a flight can be very valuable to many. If a smile and patience is too much to ask, and i need to know the details of your job, then what's the point?
There is only so much service we can offer when Air Canada constantly reduces the crew compliment on board. We have to run around like chickens with our heads cut off just to do the service in a timely manner. If you dont like the service, tell Air Canada to give us MORE TO WORK WITH!
Ever since the airline industry breakdown, i have been so dissapointed by service on Air Canada. I have been a long time customer flying from Hong kong to canada. Instead of working harder, the flight attendants have been giving attittude and have little patience. For example, some elders can't speak english very well, the flight attendants would repeat the question in english with annoyance on their face until the passenger just gives up.Perhaps this has nothing to do with the rally, or not
