  • Is this a 4 speeed or 5 speed box?

If its a 5 speed, Get a 1.8 engine in there with your 1.6 gearbox and you can piss a lot of people off :-)

  • Its a 5 speed, Im keeping it standard, 4 speeds were on the small tail light models up to 1980.

  • did 1983 gti,s come standard with bbs alloys?

  • No, Either Pirelli alloys on the campaign models or standard VW 9 Spokes.

  • all standard, 110hp, remembering it is 26 years old and 160k miles, timing and mixture not set when this was taken so may be improvement there, body work being done at the moment, engine will be looked at when back on the road in the spring. Will post updates.

  • @klados5 its a GTI so its fuel injection

  • @klados5 They had injection not carburettors

  • Finally, an ORIGINAL condition golf mk1 gti, No silly engine upgrade. And Hopefully original wheels etc! So it aint a ruined classic.

  • VERY nice! Mines a 1.6 FI

We cant get your 110HP GTI head here in the states... but my god would I love to get a hold of one!

  • 1600ccm carburetor power!

  • air box drilled or a CAI?. whatever it is sounds good and throaty.

  • Got a 1.8 of these, fantastic little car, such a joy to drive. 186k miles driven and when we took the engine apart it was just like new, absolutely amazing. Love it, want a bigger and more comfortable car but I haven't got the heart to replace it.

  • It sounds pretty awesome!

  • By the sound, there's still 2000 rpm more to come...

  • My stephbrother got one of these, I think its an mk1 seeing it got the exact same dash, he bought it for 500 bucks and it still runs like a beauty, pushed out around 150 bhp last time he checked.
